Information & Instructional Design

Information & Instructional Design is a straight forward, almost bare basics way of taking the user through a step by step, or straight forward path, be that using text, graphs, or pictures, the goal is the present information in the most effective way possible, these can range from annual report facts and figures, into simplified graphs and symbols, or an if, then, map of decisions and where they lead, or even making an IKEA table using the provided pictograph's and line art. The main purpose of this style is to lead the user through the direct path without confusion without misleading the user.

Interactive Design

Interactive Design is the application of current technologies that help or influence an audience to use the product, throughout the process of interaction design, designers must be aware of key aspects in their designs that influence emotional responses in target users. Interactive Design aims to improve usability and the experience one has with the product, be it hardware, software, a website, a console, or an ATM machine, all requires a user to input some form of action or cause that requires a response from the product, or vise-versa, creating a communication between product and audience.

Web 2.0

Web 2.0 is often seen as a 'buzz word', but in fact it is a loosely based word that describes an advancement in internet technologies. A transition from 'locked' publications put onto the web by the websites owners, and writers only, to a stage where the users and audience have as much input as to what the site has to offer as those who run it.

Originally a topic would be posted, and viewed by the audience solely as observers, but now users can post comments, replies, even tag the post on their own website, and also have their own view on the topic, creating a sort of "internet consciousness", were views are both received and given, creating "a continually-updated service that gets better the more people use it, consuming and remixing data from multiple sources, including individual users, while providing their own data and services in a form that allows remixing by others, creating network effects through an "architecture of participation," and going beyond the page metaphor of Web 1.0 to deliver rich user experiences." - Tim O'Reilly.

Hello all!

Welcome to my blog, which was created as apart of an assignment for Interactive Design I, which is a 2nd year subject of my Bach. of Design (Visual Communication). As this course is about current trends and interactivity we were required to create a blog as a means of presenting our mini-exercises over the coming weeks.
